4th Symposium of ZAMORANOS AGEAP USA
organized by the Zamorano Agricultural Society at Louisiana State University (ZAS)
Learn from world-changing ZAMORANO ALUMNI who are making a difference in the U.S.A.
In 1942 a dream came true for Samuel Zemurray, a true philanthropist and American banana magnate who started acquiring his wealth selling Central America produced bananas in Louisiana. The Pan-American Agricultural School, Zamorano, was created as Zemurray’s project to help train motivated individuals to contribute to the development of agriculture in their countries. Seventy years later Zamorano is an international agricultural university known throughout the world for its academic excellence and learning-by-doing philosophy. Thanks to Zemurray’s vision over 7,000 men and women from 29 countries have graduated from Zamorano and contributed in the development of not only Latin America but to the world.
The discipline, panamericanism, academic excellence and learning-by-doing philosophy has allowed Zamorano graduates to compete in a global landscape. The strong bonds and friendship acquired during our time in the university has led to the formation of several alumni association with branches throughout the world. Among the Zamorano alumni, the association in the United States is the largest and includes members working in private and public sectors. Specifically, the association in Louisiana State University is known as Zamorano Agricultural Society (ZAS) and is made up of graduate students and faculty. Our association is composed of 36 members from 7 different countries working in several departments within the College of Agriculture and the LSU AgCenter.
Our association has been presented with the opportunity to host the 4th Symposium of Zamoranos in the US. We believe this is a great chance to continue the success of the previous three symposiums held in Ohio State University, Purdue, and Kansas State. We also have the opportunity to involve Zamorano alumni from the southern states who have not had the chance to attend the previous meetings held in the mid-west. The event will allow the networking and exchange of ideas between Zamorano professionals and students located all over the country and helps strengthen the bond of our alumni chapter. The tours and presentations will also give the attendees an insight into the agricultural research and production as well as the rich history of Louisiana.
